Project Requirements

With more than 1,800 animals to care for across eight hectares, Adelaide Zoo staff have better things to do than rummage through bulky operations manuals every time a facility maintenance issue crops up.

Building a new conservation centre, entrance gateway and panda enclosure highlighted the Zoo’s need for a user-friendly means of managing the large volume of operations and maintenance (O&M) information involved when constructing new facilities.

The panda enclosure in particular incorporates state-of-the-art audio-visual technology, living walls, sophisticated lighting and HVAC systems, which required dozens of sub-contractors to submit as-installed operational and maintenance documentation, drawings and certifications.

Grazer’s Solution

Grazer implemented a new computer-based software system to serve as a central storage point for all sub-contractors and suppliers to submit all O&M information during and following the construction of new facilities, thus providing Zoo management with a more efficient way of obtaining and reviewing technical data for its built assets.

Project Outcomes

The digitised asset management system now enables Adelaide Zoo staff to electronically record and manage ongoing technical information – such as building drawings, schematic diagrams, operations guidelines and maintenance schedules – rather than rely on cumbersome printed manuals.

Project Review

The Grazer system continues to save Adelaide Zoo staff time and effort recording and retrieving O&M information. So successful has the software been with staff that it will now be expanded to integrate all built assets throughout the Zoo.
